| "The Orchid Society of South East Asia was founded in 1928 as the Malayan Orchid Society by John Laycock, a lawyer and amateur orchid enthusiast, Emile Galistan, a civil servant and also an amateur enthusiast, and Eric Holttum, then Director of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The Society has existed for over 75 years and has survived a world war, the formation and dissolution of the union of Singapore and Malaysia, and the conversion of a land-owning membership to one largely living in flats." |
