Election and Privileges of Members

Any person interested in the science and practice of orchid culture is eligible to apply for ordinary membership in the Orchid Society of South East Asia, but firms, bodies corporate or organizations are not, although any member or their representatives may join individually.

Applicants should complete the form before submitting.

Members of The Orchid Society of South East Asia are entitled:

  1. to attend the monthly meetings of The Orchid Society, and to bring guests to these meetings, provided that no guest may attend more than two consecutive monthly meetings;
  2. to submit plants and blooms for competition and for Award Judging at the monthly meetings and at The Orchid Society's annual show;
  3. to a copy of The Society's Monthly Bulletin (except for Spouse Members);
  4. to a copy of The Malayan Orchid Review when published (except for Spouse Members);
  5. to obtain advice on orchid matters from the officials of The Orchid Society;
  6. to vote at all General Meetings and to serve on all Society committees.

Monthly meetings are held usually on the first Sunday of every month at 2.30pm unless otherwise informed. Please refer to our announcements on both the website and the Monthly Bulletin.

Annual Subscriptions are offered to Ordinary members and their Spouse members. Please refer to the published rates for members residing in Singapore or outside Singapore. Spouse members are not entitled to received the Monthly Bulletin and the Malayan Orchid Review. All other privileges of membership apply. Subscription payments are accepted in cash or 'Singapore Dollars' cheque/bank draft.

The Orchid Society's Rules lay down that:

  1. members elected before 1st July shall pay a full year's subscription, i.e. including January to December of the same year);
  2. members elected on or after July shall pay half a year's subscription in respect of the year in which they joined;
  3. subsequent subscriptions are payable annually on 1st January;
  4. members whose subscriptions are more than three months in arrears shall be considered as having ceded membership and do not have the right to vote, hold office or enjoy any privileges of membership.
