About OSSEA

OSSEA LogoThe Orchid Society of South East Asia was founded in 1928 for any person interested in the science and practice of orchid culture, promoting orchid conservation, hybridization and cultivation in tropical lowland Asia.

Today the total membership of the Orchid Society of South East Asia (OSSEA) stands at 427 and many of our overseas members keeping in touch through the Monthly Bulletin and circulars. Members include many hobby growers of various working professions, and we are privilege to have many prominent orchid researchers onboard.

OSSEA BulletinAt the regular monthly meetings, members gather together with their blooming plants for the competitive table display. Besides an interesting commentary on the displayed plants by an expert member, we also invite guest speakers to share with us their rare experience and usually accompanied with some rare opportunity slide shows. Members may participate at local and overseas orchid shows, otherwise they can attend organised group travels to these orchid shows or even on sole visit to orchid nurseries. An annual get-together dinner also enhance members to a rare experience of food and music with orchids!

Our members elected General CommittePhoto SBG 1e has represented Singapore at various International Orchid Shows. Their voluntary services and honorary expenses makes it worthwhile when Singapore is on the world orchid map.

Our orchid industry too has always been generous to contribute the flowers for our country's display. OSSEA is grateful to have jointly organised Singapore Orchid Festival 2003 with both the National Parks Board and the Singapore Botanic Gardens, together with the support of the Singapore Tourism Board. This memorable event mark OSSEA's 75th anniversary.

Photo SBG 2The smooth functioning of the Orchid Society is only made possible with the untiring generous efforts from our general committee and various sub-committees, including many supportive members who have generously contributed to support OSSEA's activities. Also many thanks and appreciation to kind donors and sponsors, and those who have supported OSSEA's publication - the Malayan Orchid Review.

Together, it is only possible to have achieve our 75 years of existence!
